According to an "information" panel I read near Balloch Castle in Scotland this week, "whin is another word for gorse".

In fact, gentle reader, it's the *Scots* noun for gorse, not an alternative English one.

This frankly pathetic omission grinds my bloody gears. No more should we accept any attempt to subsume the Scots language or any aspect of our culture into that of Greater England.

Enough already!
